Swide.Archives: The Marilyn Monroe Project with Jennifer Lilya

One year ago, I did a very interesting project with Jennifer Lilya on Swide and today, I just want to revisit it.

Last year was Marilyn Monroe‘s 50th death anniversary and the Swide team wanted me to work on an illustration project about this iconic figure. When I first heard about the idea, Jennifer Lilya was the name that popped up in my mind instantly.

First of all, I thought it would be a cool idea to have an American illustrator to create new looks for this American icon and Jennifer was the perfect choice for this project. Her style is very whimsical and it always has a touch of pop element in her works. Her task at that time was challenging because we wanted her to dress Marilyn in the F/W 2012 Dolce & Gabbana collection.

Till this moment, I am still very impressed with the illustrations and I think Jennifer has truly captured the essence of Marilyn. The garments look very beautiful on the character and they add a modern vibe to her sexy image. I am thankful to have her on board for this project and it will forever have a special place in my heart.
